Prof. SAWA, Bulus Ajiya

The Centre for Climate Change Economics, Policy and Innovation (CCCEPI), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Professor SAWA, Bulus Ajiya was born on 15th June 1963 in Hawul Local Government Area, Borno state. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1977 from Kwagurwhulatu Primary School, General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) in 1982 from Federal Government College Port-Harcourt. Prof. Sawa bagged his I.J.M.B. (A/Level) Certificate in 1983 from the School of Basic Studies and a First Degree (Second Class Honours Upper Division, B.Sc. Geography in 1986, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Certificate in 1991 and MSc. Climatology in 2002, all from of the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He obtained his Ph.D in Climatology/Agroclimatology from the Federal University of Technology, Yola in 2009.

Professor Sawa has taught and still teaches undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in the Department of Geography, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria which include GEOG107 Zaria and Its Region I and II; GEOG108: Elementary Statistics for Geographers and Zaria; GEOG 204: Introductory Climatology and Biogeography; GEOG 205: Elementary Statistics for Geographers; GEOG208: Spatial Analysis GEOG 309: Biogeography; GEOG311: Climatology; GEOG 401: Systematic Geography of Nigeria I; GEOG 403: Philosophy and Methodology of Geography; GEOG 406: Applied Climatology and GEOG409: Tropical Climatology; for the undergraduates. The Postgraduate courses include GEOG 813: Advanced Climatology; GEOG 814: Advanced Biogeography; RGIS 809 Principles of Cartography; DRMS 803: Natural and Man-made Hazards and theirs Management; DRMS 814: Climate Change and Food Security; GEOG 832: Quantitative Techniques in Geography; GERG 805: Fundamentals of GIS; GEOG 855: Climate Change and Development; GEOG 814: Applied Climatology; GEEM 810: Global Climate and Environmental Change; DRMS 807: National Disaster Policies and Plans; DRMS 818: Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; DRMS 811: Camp Design and Camp Management and DRMS 814: Climate Change and Food Security.

Professor B. A. Sawa was appointed the Pioneer Coordinator Training and Outreach Unit of the Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies of the University in 2009 to date. Professor B. A. Sawa has fifty (50) journal publications, (21) in highly rated International journals and 29 in home-based journals) in addition to fifteen published conference proceedings and five (5) chapter contributions to textbooks. He has carried out fourteen (14) researches on climate change and disaster management. He has between 2010 and 2021 supervised and graduated thirteen (13) Ph.D, three (3) M.Phil. and sixty eight (68) MSc. Students.

Professor B. A. Sawa is a UNDP Climate Change Expert Consultant for ENVIPLAN International Limited on Engineering, Environmental planning, Development and Management on NEWMAP Catchment Management Planning in Katsina State and. He belongs to several professional bodies among which are: Member, Association of Nigerian Geographers (MANG.), Member, Nigerian Meteorological Society (MN.Met.S), Member, Nigerian Association of Hydrological Sciences (MNAHS) and Member, International Society for Agricultural Meteorology (MINSAM).
