The Centre for Climate Change Economics, Policy and Innovation (CCCEPI), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Edwin Osawe IGUISI is a Professor of Environmental Management in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He has B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees in Geography from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, Osun State, Nigeria and Ph.D Geography from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He also has several other Certificates and Diplomas from different Institutions across the Globe, including:

  1. Certificate in Post Disaster Needs Assessment in 2012. Awarded by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and the World Bank (WB) at the Joint Vienna Institute, Vienna, Austria.

  2. Certificate in Disaster Management in 2014. Awarded by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre, Bangkok, Thailand.

  3. Diploma in Management of Higher Education Institutes in 2018. Awarded by the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel.

  4. Certificate in COVID-19 Recovery Needs Assessment Recovery Planning (2021). Awarded by Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch, South Africa.

He is a member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers and also a member of the Nigeria Meteorological Society. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management.

He has served the University in various capacities. He was Head of Department of Geography and Environmental Management from 2006 to 2010; Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science (2006 – 2010); Acting Dean, Faculty of Science (2010 to 2011); Director, Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies ( 2010 – 2017); Coordinator, Climate Change and Economic Policy Unit, Department of Geography and Environmental Management; Coordinator, PeriPeri U Consortium (www.riskreductionafrica.org) etc.

He has also served as Consultant to several Institutions including the United Nations Development Program, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction (formerly UNISDR), Christian AID, etc. Some notable ones include:

  1. Consultant to the United Nations Development Program on Disaster Risk Reduction for the 2012 flood in Nigeria;

  2. Consultant to the United Nations Development Program for the Human Recovery Needs Assessment after the 2012 flood in Nigeria;

  3. Consultant to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa on the Assessment of Mainstreaming and Implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction into National Development Plans in Nigeria;

  4. Consultant to United Nations Development Program / The National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (UNDP/NEMA) on the Development of Public Awareness and Advocacy Plan on DRR in Nigeria;

  5. Consultant to Christian AID Nigeria on Baseline Survey of Flood Disaster Management in The Middle Belt Region of Nigeria;

  6. Consultant to Christian AID Nigeria on Action Learning Framework for Flood Disaster Management in The Middle Belt Region of Nigeria;

  7. Member, Nigeria National Development Plan (VISION 20: 2020) Committee on Water and Sanitation;

  8. Member, UNISDR Expert Group for the development of Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF) for the Sendai Framework;

  9. Consultant to UNDP / ECOWAS project on COVID-19 Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Coordination (West Africa).

His research areas revolve around Soil and Water resources management; disaster risk management; as well as Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. He has supervised over thirty (30) Ph.D. graduates, over sixty (60) M.Sc. graduates and several Post graduate Diplomas and Masters degrees. He has over a hundred (100) publications; which includes over seventy (70) articles in reputable Journals worldwide, about twenty (20) articles in various Conference Proceedings, ten (10) chapters in different Books, about sixteen (16) Technical / Commissioned Papers and about fifty (50) papers in various local and international Conferences. He is also External Examiner to several Universities in Nigeria.
