Prof. James OlusolaAdefila had his Bachelor of Arts in Geography (B. A. Hons, 1983) and Graduate Certificate in Education (Grad. Cert. Educ., 1983) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Master of Science in Geography (M. Sc, 1997) and Doctor of Philosophy in Geography (PhD, 2004) from University of Ilorin. Prof. Adefila started his academic career at the Kwara State College of Education, Oro. He served in different capacities ranging from Head, Geography Department, Director, Academic Planning, Assist. Director, Regular Degree Programme to Chairman, Staff School Establishment Committee before he moved to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is currently Professor of Geography, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with specialization in rural studies, regional development, regional planning and Environmental Management.

He is one of the resource persons in the Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies and Centre for Climate Change Economics, Policy and Innovation of the University. On his duties and responsibilities, apart from normal teaching which cuts across the Undergraduate, Masters and the Doctoral levels, he is the Chairman, Examination Regularities Investigation Committee, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Member, Academic Planning and Monitoring Unit of the University; Member, Editorial Board of Savanna: Journal of Environmental and Social Sciences; Editor, International Organization of Scientific Research, India; Editor, Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics and Sociology, Pakistan.

With respect to external responsibilities, he serves as External Assessor to Federal College of Education, Zaria as well as Visiting Lecturer to Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil among others. He has contributed immensely to article publications in a variety of national and international journals. Some of his celebrated articles are on spatial variations in economic growth, inequalities in economic development, infrastructural facilities, challenge of bottom-up approach and rural development strategies. His membership of professional bodies is multifarious and cut across disciplines. He is a member of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Association of Nigerian Geographers, and Development Studies Association, London.
